Women’s Volleyball downed in AMCC match at Penn State Altoona

The Lions (10-11,2-2 AMCC) hit .301 on the night with just nine errors.
Rebecca Hess (New Alexandria, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) led Carlow (6-14,1-3 AMCC) with a game-high 11 kills, and Emily Hess (Saltsburg, Pa./River Valley HS) added 11 digs in the effort. Jurisa Shirky (Canterbury, UK/The Mount Academy) tallied three of the Celtics' six blocks.
Altoona jumped out to an 11-2 lead to start the first set and scored 10 unanswered points to end the set, 25-5.
Carlow started stronger in the second set, but the Lions quickly regained the lead. Two kills and an error saw the Celtics trailing by one before Altoona strung together a 9-2 run to go ahead, 23-15. A service error and a kill from Rebecca Hess put two points on the board for Carlow, but back-to-back kills ended the set 25-17 in favor of the home team.
The Lions jumped out to a 6-1 advantage in the third set before the Celtics found their groove. A kill from Rebecca Hess set off a 5-0 run for Carlow that tied the score, 12-all.
The teams traded marginal leads several times, with Suzy Walker (Boswell, Pa./North Star HS) landing a kill to tie the game once again at 17-17.
The Lions ended the game with an 8-1 run to win, 25-18.
Hannah Swank led Altoona with 10 kills, and Ella Hadley added a game-high 20 digs and four service aces.
The Celtics travel to Penn State Behrend for a 1 p.m. AMCC match Oct. 25.
