Women’s Volleyball drops three sets to Penn State Behrend

The Celtics (6-14,1-3 AMCC) took the Lions (16-6,3-1 AMCC) to a win-by-two situation in the second set, but could not pull off a win, falling 25-11, 26-24 and 25-15.
Jorja Sedlar (Brentwood, Pa./PA Leadership Charter School) led Carlow with five kills, and Rebecca Hess (New Alexandria, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) tallied 13 digs in the effort.
Behrend went ahead 9-2 to start the first set and extended its lead to 19-10 with a 7-1 run later on. The Lions scored six unanswered points to end the first set, 25-11.
The Celtics had the advantage to begin the second set, leading 11-7 before a 5-0 run saw Behrend ahead by one. Carlow tied the score three times and gained another marginal lead due to four Lions errors in a row.
The teams traded one-point leads until the end, when Hess landed a service ace to give the Celtics set point at 24-23. Two Carlow errors and a Lions kill following a Behrend timeout swung the set in favor of the Lions, 26-24.
Carlow tied the game five times and was ahead 9-8 in the third set before a 10-0 Behrend run put the Lions up, 18-9. It was too little, too late for the Celtics, as Behrend took the third set, 25-15, to win the match.
Cadence Jones led the Lions with a game-high nine kills, and Sara Nobach contributed 18 digs and four service aces on the day.
The Celtics travel to Alfred State College for a 1 p.m. AMCC match Nov. 1.
