Hess lands 1,000th career dig, Women’s Volleyball wins first conference match of the season
GREENSBURG, Pa. --- Carlow University senior outside hitter Rebecca Hess secured her 1,000th career dig in a 3-1 win over Pitt Greensburg to open Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action on the road Tuesday.

Hess (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) needed just 20 digs heading into the match tonight and reached the milestone of 1,000 career kills earlier this season.
She led Carlow (6-10,1-0 AMCC) with a double-double 24 digs and a game-high 15 kills over the Bobcats (2-16,0-1 AMCC).
Kelsey Sufak (Allison Park, Pa./Deer Lakes HS) added 16 digs and tied a career-high eight service aces, while Sarah Porter (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway HS) tallied 22 assists. Carlow recorded 17 service aces on the night – the most since Sept. 1, 2023 (19).
Carlow lost the first set, 25-20, before winning the next three 25-15, 25-18, 25-22.
The Celtics went ahead 10-6 in the first set, and both teams traded leads throughout until the end. Ahead 21-20, the Bobcats landed four kills in a row to secure the first set victory.
Carlow jumped out to a 7-3 advantage in the second set and did not allow the Bobcats a chance to tie the game, ending the set on a 6-2 run for the win.
The third set resembled the first, as both teams battled until the very end. Ahead 19-16, a kill from Suzy Walker (Boswell, Pa./North Star HS) set off a 6-2 run that put the Celtics ahead, 2-1, in the match.
Pitt Greensburg led 19-13 in the fourth set until a kill from Jorja Sedlar (Brentwood, Pa./PA Leadership Charter School), back-to-back service aces from Sufak and three Bobcats errors in a row saw the game tied at 19-all.
Pitt Greensburg went ahead once again, 21-19, but Carlow outscored the Bobcats 4-2 and Paige Keller (Liberty Borough, Pa./South Allegheny HS) hit the final two kills to secure the win.
Mia Stohon led the Bobcats with 12 kills and Emily Hernandez tallied 24 digs in the effort.
The Celtics travel to Kenyon College for 7 p.m. match Oct. 9.
