Women’s Volleyball drops 3-0 contest to Penn State Brandywine
MEDIA, Pa. --- Carlow University women’s volleyball dropped a 3-0 nonconference contest to Penn State Brandywine on the road Saturday.

The Celtics (3-6) fell to the Lions (3-3) by scores of 25-19, 25-23 and 25-20.
Rebecca Hess (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) tallied a game-high 14 kills and added 14 digs, while Sarah Porter (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway HS) added 14 assists.
Kelsey Sufak (Allison Park, Pa./Deer Lakes HS) and Carrah Scardina (Natrona Heights, Pa./Highlands HS) combined for eight of Carlow's 10 service aces in the match.
The Celtics went ahead 10-7 in the first set, pushing their advantage to 14-8 midway through the game. A kill from Brandywine in the next play set off a big 14-1 run, giving the Lions a 22-15 lead. Although Carlow battled back to 24-19, an error ended the game in favor of Brandywine.
It was a back-and-forth game in the second set, with each team going on small runs to take the lead and tie the score. Carlow trailed 24-22 at the end when a service error by the Lions kept the Celtics in the game. Carlow committed a service error of its own to end the set 25-23 in favor of Brandywine.
Although the Celtics trailed by one several times, the Lions maintained an advantage the entire third set to secure the sweep.
Hailey Piccirillo had 11 kills, and Lara Zima added a game-high 15 digs for Brandywine.
Carlow travels to Salem (W.Va.) University for a 6 p.m. match Tuesday.
