Women’s Volleyball bested by Kenyon in road match

The Celtics (6-11) won the first set 25-23 before falling to the Owls (4-14), 25-6, 25-20 and 25-13.
Kenyon recorded double-figure kills in every set, hitting .206 on the night.
Rebecca Hess (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) led Carlow with 13 digs and nine kills, while Kelsey Sufak (Allison Park, Pa./Deer Lakes HS) added 12 digs and two service aces.
The Celtics started strong in the first set, taking several leads that the Owls eventually recovered to tie the score at 13- and 19-all. Two errors and a kill from Paige Keller (Liberty Borough, Pa./South Allegheny HS) put Carlow back on top, 22-19, and the Celtics held on for the 25-23 win.
The Owls hit .419 in the second set and outscored the Celtics 15-2 to win a decisive 25-6 set.
Trailing 13-9 in the third set, an ace and three Owls errors tied the game at 13-all. A 7-1 run from Kenyon gave them the lead again, and although the Celtics put together a short run later, the Owls prevailed with a 25-20 victory.
Carlow jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the fourth set and were ahead 10-5 before the Owls produced 11 unanswered points, gaining a 16-10 advantage. A 9-2 push at the end secured the 25-13 set and match win for Kenyon.
Aura Barinas led Kenyon with a game-high 15 kills, and Lauren Blakemore recorded a game-high 24 digs. Joy Carstanjen tallied four of the Owls' 18 service aces, and two other players added double-figure kills in the win.
The Celtics host Mount Aloysius for a 7 p.m. AMCC match Oct. 15.
