Women’s Volleyball swept in City Game at Chatham

The Cougars (3-0) have not lost a set this season and held the Celtics (3-5) to just 18 kills on the evening.
Rebecca Hess (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) led the team with 10 digs and eight kills, and Sarah Porter (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway HS) recorded 10 assists in the effort.
Miscues also plagued the Celtics with 16 attacking errors while Chatham hit .333 in the match.
Carlow landed the first two points of the game, but Chatham recovered and took a 5-2 lead. The Celtics tied the game three times in a row before a Chatham error handed Carlow the advantage. Carlow outscored the Cougars 6-3 to lead 14-11 until a kill from Becca Gesner set off an 8-2 run.
Two kills in a row from Hess and another Chatham attacking error saw the Celtics trailing by one, but the Cougars scored six unanswered points to end the set with a 25-18 victory.
Chatham jumped out to a 13-1 advantage enroute to a decisive 25-9 win in the second set.
The Cougars went ahead 8-2 in the third before the Celtics tied the game at 8-all. Chatham outscored Carlow 10-2 and ran away with the third set win.
Gesner and Paige Watson hit eight kills apiece for the Cougars, while Sierra Ricci recorded 21 digs.
The Celtics travel to Penn State Brandywine Sept. 13.
