Softball picks up first AMCC win of the season with split at Pitt Greensburg

Game 1: L, 11-3 (5 inn.)
Pitt Greensburg's Autumn Powell one-hit the Celtics through three innings and tallied six strikeouts to earn the win in the first game.
The Bobcats (7-15, 2-4 AMCC) scored six runs on four hits and two costly errors to go ahead 6-0 in the bottom of the first.
Pitt Greensburg retired the Celtics (4-18, 1-3 AMCC) in order in the top of the second and added another run in the bottom half of the frame.
Three singles, a double and a three-run home run put the Bobcats up, 11-0, heading into the top of the fourth.
Carlow scored all three of its runs in the top of the fourth. Mackenzie Egley (Shelocta, Pa./Armstrong HS) led off with a single to left field, followed by an infield single from Carrah Scardina (Natrona Heights, Pa./Highlands HS). Tatum Wiggs (Boron, Calif./Boron HS) hit an RBI single up the middle, and a two-out walk loaded the bases. Gianna Ferrieri (South Park, Pa./Seton LaSalle Catholic HS) and Lexi Berta (DuBois, Pa./DuBois Central Catholic) hit back-to-back singles to bring in the final two runs for the Celtics.
Cailyn Lucas (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills HS) retired the Bobcats in order in the bottom of the inning, but Pitt Greensburg left a runner stranded in the top of the fifth to end the game in five innings.
Scardina went 2 for 3 to lead the Celtics at the plate, and Ferrieri was saddled with the loss after allowing 11 runs (eight earned) on 10 hits with one strikeout in 2.1 innings.
Shelby Cloak went 2 for 4 with two doubles, and Falynn Reinard went 3 for 3 to lead the Bobcats.
Game 2: W, 6-5
The Celtics scored a comeback victory in the nightcap, trailing 5-3 before scoring runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
An RBI single up the middle from Mackenzie Egley put Carlow on the board in the first, but the Bobcats quickly tied the game in the bottom of the second with a two-out single.
A two run double off the bat of Wiggs put the Celtics up, 3-1, in the top of the third, but Pitt Greensburg gained the advantage in the bottom of the fourth.
An RBI double and a two-run single with two outs gave the Bobcats a 4-3 lead. A single down the left field line in the bottom of the fifth saw Pitt Greensburg ahead, 5-3.
A two-run single off the bat of Scardina tied the game in the sixth, and the Celtics thwarted the Bobcats' efforts when Deborah Garza () caught a runner stealing second in the bottom half of the frame.
The Celtics scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh. Wiggs drew a walk, and Trinity Kimble (Leechburg, Pa./Leechburg Area HS) entered the game as a pinch runner. Taylor Egley (Shelocta, Pa./Armstrong HS) executed a textbook sacrifice bunt to move her over, and a single from Ferrieri put runners on the corners with one out. Lucas helped her own cause in the next at-bat with a sacrifice fly to left field that allowed Kimble to score, and Carlow left a runner stranded in the bottom of the inning to close the game.
Scardina went 2 for 3 with two RBI, Kamyia Morris went 2 for 3 and Garza hit 2 for 4 to lead the Celtics at the plate. Lucas earned the win in the circle, scattering three hits with two walks over 2.2 innings of work.
Whitney McCoskey went 2 for 2 with a double and three RBI to lead the Bobcats, while Kaetlin Caylao suffered the loss after allowing three earned runs on eight hits with a walk and a strikeout in 4.1 innings.
Carlow hosts Penn State Behrend for a 12 p.m. AMCC doubleheader at West Mifflin High School April 11.
