Softball falters on final day of The Spring Games

The Celtics (1-9) fell to Wheaton (Mass.) College, 15-0, and lost 11-3 to Thomas (Maine) College in the nightcap.
vs. Wheaton: L, 15-0 (5 inn.)
Pitcher Sofia DeLaRosa tossed a three-hitter, and the Lyons (7-2) pounded 19 hits in a shutout over the Celtics to start the day.
The Lyons jumped out to an early lead, scoring eight runs on nine hits and an error in the top of the second.
Wheaton retired the Celtics in order in the bottom of the inning and added three unearned runs on three hits and a costly error in the third. The Lyons all but duplicated the same efforts, with three runs on five hits and an error in the fourth to go ahead, 14-0.
Carlow recorded two hits in the bottom half of the frame, but Wheaton left both runners stranded and added another run with two doubles in the top of the fifth.
Tatum Wiggs (Boron, Calif./Boron HS) was saddled with the loss after allowing eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits with two walks and two strikeouts in 1.1 innings of work.
Taylor Barry went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI, Amber Arcand hit 2 for 4 with a double and three RBI and Peyton Blankenheim-Brown went 3 for 3 with two RBI to help lead the Lyons.

Carlow started strong in the nightcap, but the Terriers (5-6) produced two big innings to secure the win.
Kamyia Morris (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton LaSalle Catholic HS) hit an infield single to lead off the first, and Lexi Berta (DuBois, Pa./DuBois Central Catholic) laid down a bunt to move her over. Mackenzie Egley (Shelocta, Pa./Armstrong HS) singled through the right side to put runners on the corners. Taylor Egley (Shelocta, Pa./Armstrong HS) drew a two-out walk that ended with a wild pitch, allowing Morris to score from third.
Carlow retired Thomas in order in the bottom of the inning, and both teams left runners stranded on the basepaths in the second.
The Terriers strung together seven hits to gain a 6-1 lead in the bottom of the third.
A one-out single to right-center field by Deborah Garza (San Antonio, Texas/Robert G. Cole HS), and an error and a walk loaded the bases for Carlow in the fourth. Another wild pitch saw the Celtics trailing 6-2 before Wheaton escaped the inning.
The Celtics prevented a run from scoring in the bottom of the inning after catching a runner trying to stretch the play at home.
Taylor Egley drew a walk, and Gianna Ferrieri (South Park, Pa./Seton LaSalle Catholic HS) hit a one-out double to left field to place runners on the corners in the top of the fifth. A sacrifice fly to center field off the bat of Carrah Scardina (Natrona Heights, Pa./Highlands HS) cut Wheaton's lead to 6-3, but the Terriers secured the final out before Carlow could score again.
The Terriers tallied five runs on five hits and an error and Carlow walked in the walk-off run the bottom half of the frame.
Cailyn Lucas (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills HS) suffered the loss after allowing five earned runs on seven hits with a walk and a strikeout in 2.1 innings of work.
Elisa Gonzalez hit 2 for 3 with a triple and two RBI, and Bella Medeiros went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBI to lead the Terriers. Megan Oberholzer earned the complete game win, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits with four walks and a strikeout.
The Celtics face crosstown foe Chatham University for a 6:30 p.m. doubleheader at West Field March 19.
