Men’s Volleyball begins weekend road trip with match at Houghton

The Highlanders (4-10, 3-2 AMCC) swept the Celtics 25-15, 25-14, 25-21.
Gavin McLain (Acworth, Ga./North Paulding HS) led Carlow with seven kills. Angelo Fernandez (Williamsport, Pa./St. John Neumann Regional Academy) picked up a game-high nine digs, and Ryan Callahan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler Area HS) tallied 10 assist. Luke Campana (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin HS) hit three of the Celtics' four service aces on the night.
The Celtics started off with a 4-0 lead in the first set before Houghton tied the game at 5-all. Back-to-back errors handed Carlow the lead once again, but a 5-1 run put the Highlanders ahead, 10-8.
Houghton scored 11 unanswered points to go ahead 21-9 enroute to the 25-15 victory.
Carlow went ahead 4-2 in the second set until a 6-1 run saw the Highlanders up, 8-5. Houghton strung together several brief runs throughout the set to win, 25-14.
The Celtics fared better in the final set, tying the game several times and gaining a marginal lead midway through.
Tied at 17-all, an error, a service ace and a kill put Houghton ahead, 20-17. Although errors and kills kept Carlow within one, the Highlanders outscored the Celtics 4-1 to end the set, 25-21.
Jonah Sissel led the Highlanders with a game-high eight kills and Jerry Buno added 16 assists.
The Celtics compete against Penn State Behrend and St. John Fisher at a tri-match hosted by the Lions today.
