Men’s Volleyball faces Geneva in season opener

The Golden Tornadoes defeated the Celtics, 3-0.
Luke Campana (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin HS) led Carlow with five kills, and David Valentino (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional HS) contributed four digs.
Geneva jumped out to a 10-2 lead enroute to a 25-10 victory in the first set.
The Celtics fared better in the second set, falling behind early but slowly chipping away to trail by three. Two kills and a Carlow error put the Golden Tornadoes ahead, 21-15. A kill from Caio Matos Machado (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Bishop Guilfoyle HS) and a Geneva error saw the Celtics trailing, 22-18, but the Golden Tornadoes landed the final three points to end the set, 25-18.
Carlow went ahead 4-2 in the third set, and both teams tied the score twice before Geneva gained an 8-7 advantage. A kill by the Golden Tornadoes set off an 11-1 run to put them up, 19-8.
Four costly Carlow errors and a kill ended the third set, 25-9, in favor of the home team.
Geneva recorded 11 service aces and 13 blocks on the night.
Joshua Stowe led Geneva with a game-high eight kills, and Christian Parks added a game-high eight digs.
The Celtics host Chatham University in a 6 p.m. home opener Jan. 21 at St. Joseph Athletic & Fitness Center.
