Late goal not enough for Men’s Soccer in AMCC clash with Penn State Altoona

Nat Rosario (Sugarloaf, Pa./Marian Catholic HS) scored his first collegiate goal in the 75th minute. Andrew Sherstnyov (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks HS South) sent a ball in off a free kick, and when it ricocheted off a defender, it bounced to Rosario who made a standing kick over his shoulder to land the top shelf goal.
The goal saw the Celtics trailing 3-1 after a 23rd minute tally by the Lions (2-11, 1-5 AMCC) and two more in the second half at 53' and 63'.
Minutes after Rosario's goal, Eric Fowler (Torrington, Conn./Wamogo Regional HS) and Hunter Brady (Wrightsville, Pa./Eastern York HS) both saw opportunities to score, but Altoona's goalkeeper stood strong and made the saves.
Altoona's final goal of the night was an own goal that deflected off a Carlow defender into the net.
The Celtics (2-11, 0-7 AMCC) outshot the Lions 18-13, with 13 of Carlow's shots recorded in the second half. Altoona held a narrow 9-8 margin in shots on goal and corner kicks (4-1).
Devan Donskoy (Jamison, Pa./Central Bucks HS East) added two shots for the Celtics, and John Rummel (Price, Utah/Utah State Univ. Eastern) made four saves in the complete game effort in goal.
Felipe Velarde scored two goals for the Lions and goalkeeper Tyler Tardiff made seven saves.
The Celtics host Penn State Behrend for an 8 p.m. AMCC match tomorrow night at Highmark Stadium. Prior to kickoff, Carlow will celebrate Senior Day.
