GREENVILLE, Pa. --- Carlow University men's soccer opened the 2025 season with a 2-0 loss to Thiel College on the road Saturday night.
The Tomcats (1-1) did not allow Carlow a single shot on goal, outshooting the Celtics 21-5 in the match with an 8-1 corner kick advantage. First-year goalkeeper Dustin Harrier (North Versailles, Pa./East Allegheny HS) got his first collegiate start in net, making 10 stops in the complete game effort.
Thiel scored both of its goals four minutes apart early in the second half. Grant Becker took a corner kick and found Derek Thomas who put it in the back of the net for the Tomcats' first goal. A little over four minutes later, Mason Melaragno sent the ball in for Pierson Badowski who scored Thiel's final goal of the night.
The Celtics prevented the Tomcats from scoring the remainder of the game, but Thiel's defense did not afford Carlow any opportunities to make a dent in the deficit.
The Celtics return to action with a 4 p.m. road match at Penn State Mont Alto Sept. 2.
