Women’s Volleyball picks up first win at home over Wilson
PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University women’s volleyball defeated Wilson College 3-1 in nonconference action inside St. Joseph Athletic & Fitness Center gymnasium Friday night.

The Celtics (3-4) made quick work of the Phoenix (0-2) in the first set, 25-9, before Wilson won the second set, 25-18. Carlow won the next two, 25-13 and 25-22.
As a team, the Celtics hit .236 on the night with 14 service aces and seven blocks.
Rebecca Hess (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) led Carlow with a game-high 17 kills. She also recorded four aces. Suzy Walker (Boswell, Pa./North Star HS) hit .409 with 11 kills and three block assists, while Kelsey Sufak (Allison Park, Pa./Deer Lakes HS) contributed 13 digs. Sarah Porter (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway HS) tallied a double-double with 16 assists and 12 digs, and Emily Hess (Saltsburg, Pa./River Valley HS) added 18 assists.
The Celtics trailed 7-4 to start the first set before a kill from Rebecca Hess set off a 16-1 run, during which time Hess recorded her four aces in a row and Carlow extended its lead to 20-8. An attack error afforded the Phoenix a point before Carlow scored its final five consecutive points to end the set.
Wilson took advantage of an early 12-4 lead in the second set, but the Celtics were able to claw back to trail by two late in the game. The Phoenix outscored Carlow 6-1 to win the set.
Carlow leapt to a 9-1 lead enroute to a 25-13 win in the third set, but Wilson did not back down and made the Celtics work to win the fourth and final set of the night.
Both teams tied the score and traded leads throughout the set before two costly Wilson errors in a row saw Carlow ahead, 22-20. A kill from Walker put the Celtics up three, before each team committed a service error. Wilson landed a kill to trail by two before an attack error cost them the set and the match.
Abby Moreland led the Phoenix with a double-double 10 kills and 12 digs, and Addie Hebert recorded a game-high 15 digs in the effort.
The Celtics return to action with a 7 p.m. match at neighboring Chatham University Sept. 9.
