Women’s Basketball defeats Pitt Bradford in AMCC action

Lexi Ewig (Claysville, Pa./McGuffey HS) led the Celtics with a game- and season-high 40 points, shooting 12 for 15 from the floor. She narrowly scored a triple-double, with 10 rebounds and nine assists on the day.
Liberty Picarelli (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area HS) shot 4 for 9 from beyond the arc to score 13 points off the bench, and Gia Rosensteel (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem HS) recorded her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Alexis Toth (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette HS) added 11 points and nine rebounds.
Pitt Bradford (0-21, 0-13 AMCC) started strong with a 10-3 lead in the first quarter. The Celtics (4-17, 4-9 AMCC) came within one point of tying the score several times, but the Panthers maintained the advantage heading into the second quarter.
Pitt Bradford pushed its lead to eight to begin the second quarter before a jumper from Toth set off a 12-4 run for the Celtics, culminating in a trey by Picarelli to tie the score at 30-all.
Toth scored the next four points to give Carlow its first lead of the game, and Picarelli hit another three-pointer to put the Celtics ahead, 37-33. A free throw and a last-second layup from Ewig saw Carlow up 40-33 at the half.
The Celtics held Pitt Bradford scoreless for over four minutes in the third quarter, outscoring the Panthers 25-11 and extending their lead to 21 heading into the fourth.
Carlow outscored Pitt Bradford 25-22 in the final quarter to secure the victory.
The Celtics outrebounded the Panthers 54-39 and outscored Pitt Bradford 15-2 off the bench.
The Panthers scored 14 points off 18 Carlow turnovers on the day.
Amber Murak led the Panthers with 25 points, and two other players recorded double figures in the effort.
The Celtics travel to Pitt Greensburg for a 2 p.m. AMCC game Feb. 14.
