Turnovers costly in Women’s Basketball loss to Penn State Behrend

The Celtics (2-14, 2-6 AMCC) held a narrow 40-39 rebounding margin over the Lions (13-5, 8-1 AMCC), but it was not enough to escape Behrend shooting 50.7 percent (35 for 69) from the field.
Lexi Ewig (Claysville, Pa./McGuffey HS) led the Celtics with 17 points and seven rebounds. Josie Horne (Waynesburg, Pa./Waynesburg Central HS) added 13 points and seven rebounds in the effort.
Emari Stinnette (Baltimore, Md./Randallstown HS) started things off with a three-pointer to put Carlow on the board, and the teams traded leads before Behrend tied the game at 6-all. Stinnette broke a two-minute stalemate with two free throws, and the Celtics maintained a marginal advantage before the Lions strung together an 8-3 run in the final three minutes of the first quarter to lead, 17-13.
Behrend erupted to outscore Carlow 31-18 in the second quarter and took a 17-point lead into halftime.
The Lions outpaced the Celtics 42-28 in the second half for the win.
Behrend recorded 31 points off 26 Carlow turnovers and outscored the Celtics 23-6 off the bench.
Morgan Altavilla landed a game-high 22 points and collected four steals, and three other players tallied double figures for the Lions.
The Celtics host La Roche University for a 7 p.m. AMCC game Jan. 28.
