Women’s Basketball runs out of steam against Tomcats

Gia Rosensteel (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem HS) led Carlow with 14 points and three steals. Lexi Ewig (Claysville, Pa./McGuffey HS) pulled down a game- and season-high 11 rebounds and dished out four assists.
The Tomcats (5-5) went ahead early, but the Celtics (1-11) scored six points in the final minute of the first quarter to trail by three.
Carlow tied the game 18-all early in the second quarter, and a jumper from Liberty Picarelli (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area HS) gave the Celtics their first lead of the game.
Neither team scored for over two minutes before an and-one layup and the subsequent free throw put Thiel ahead, 21-20.
The Tomcats held Carlow scoreless for over five minutes, gaining a seven-point advantage heading into halftime.
Thiel outscored the Celtics 9-2 to start the second half and pushed their lead to 20 by the end of the third quarter, outscoring Carlow 22-10.
The Celtics outscored the Tomcats, 16-13, in the fourth quarter, but could not recover from the earlier deficit.
Thiel outrebounded Carlow 49-45 and scored 24 points off 23 Celtics turnovers.
Issy Green led the Tomcats with a game-high 21 points with seven assists and five steals. Two other players tallied double figures, and Caitlin Stephens pulled down 10 rebounds.
The Celtics enjoy the holiday break and return with a 2 p.m. AMCC match at Alfred State College Jan. 7.
