Women’s Basketball opens Lauren Hill Classic at Mount St. Joseph

The Celtics fell to the Lions, 88-32. Turnovers proved costly, and the Mount St. Joseph (1-2) defense held Carlow to single digits through the final three quarters of action.
Courtney Martin (Bemus Point, New York/Maple Grove HS/Jamestown CC) and Emari Stinnette (Baltimore, Md./Randallstown HS) scored seven points each, while Josie Horne (Waynesburg, Pa./Waynesburg Central HS) and Alexis Toth (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette HS) pulled down nine rebounds apiece.
Carlow kept it close to start the game before Mount St. Joseph held the Celtics scoreless for over eight minutes between the first and second quarters to gain a 25-point lead.
The Lions led 47-19 at halftime and outscored Carlow 41-13 in the second half.
Each team recorded 47 rebounds, but the Lions shot 44.9 percent (35 for 78) from the field, including 11 three-pointers on the night. Mount St. Joseph scored 35 points off 32 Carlow turnovers and outscored the Celtics 37-12 off the bench.
Karlee Mills led the Lions with a game-high 19 points, and three other players tallied double figures in the win.
The Celtics compete against Trine (Ind.) University tomorrow at 3 p.m. to conclude the Lauren Hill Classic.
