Junior Courtney Martin (Bemus Point, New York/Maple Grove HS/Jamestown CC) recorded her first double-double of the season with a game-high 20 points and 12 rebounds. She tallied five of Carlow's six blocks on the day and picked up two steals. Emari Stinnette (Baltimore, Md./Randallstown HS) pulled down nine boards, and Jada Drummond (Philadelphia, Pa./New Foundations Charter School) dished out three assists.
Both teams struggled through the first quarter, with Carlow's defense holding the Barons (3-2) to just four points.
Franciscan went on an 11-1 run over the span of three minutes in the second quarter to take the lead, outscoring the Celtics 23-12 to take a seven-point lead into halftime.
The Barons held Carlow to single digit scoring in the third quarter, extending their lead to 13 points heading into the final quarter.
The Celtics outscored Franciscan 13-11 in the final quarter, but it was not enough to close the gap.
Carlow shot 77.3 percent (17 for 22) at the foul line and outrebounded the Barons 57-44. Franciscan scored 19 points after causing 37 Carlow turnovers and outscored the Celtics 24-10 off the bench.
Caroline Reedy led the Barons with 10 points, nine rebounds and seven steals off the bench. Jazzlyn Melnyk pulled down 10 rebounds in the win.
The Celtics host Waynesburg University for a 7 p.m. game at Donahue Pavilion Nov. 18.
