Softball stumbles on second day of The Spring Games

vs. Aurora: L, 9-1 (5 inn.)
The Celtics started the day with a 9-1 run-rule loss to Aurora University (2-2).
The Spartans went ahead early with three runs on three hits in the bottom of the first.
Carlow retired Aurora in order in the bottom of the second, but the Spartans left two Celtics stranded after back-to-back singles in the top of the third.
Two walks, two doubles and three singles added five runs to the board for the Spartans before Carlow escaped the bottom half of the frame.
Carlow left a runner stranded in the fourth and attempted a comeback in the top of the fifth.
Erica Keeley (Munhall, Pa./Steel Valley HS) hit a lead-off single to right field to start the inning, and Trinity Kimble (Leechburg, Pa./Leechburg Area HS) entered the game to pinch run at first. Lexi Berta (DuBois, Pa./DuBois Central Catholic) laid down a textbook sacrifice bunt, and Kimble took advantage of the throw by making it to third base.
Kamyia Morris (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton LaSalle Catholic HS) stepped to the plate and hit a single to left field to bring Kimble home, but the Spartans caught Morris too far off the bag on a fly ball to right field in the next at-bat.
Morris went 2 for 3 with an RBI.
Tatum Wiggs (Boron, Calif./Boron HS) suffered the loss after allowing eight earned runs on eight hits with one strikeout and three walks in 2.2 innings. Gianna Ferrieri (South Park, Pa./Seton LaSalle Catholic HS) tossed the final two innings, allowing one run on three hits.
Angie Delgado led the Spartans at the plate, batting 3 for 3 with two doubles and an RBI. Three different players added two RBI each.
Emma Way earned the win in the circle, allowing one earned run on four hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
vs. Catholic: L, 15-0 (5 inn.)
Sophia Colangelo pitched a two-hit shutout in a run-rule win over the Celtics in the nightcap.
The Cardinals (6-4) pounded 16 hits, including six extra base hits in five innings.
Wiggs and Mackenzie Egley (Shelocta, Pa./Armstrong HS) recorded the only hits for the Celtics, and Cailyn Lucas (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills HS) suffered the loss after allowing five runs (three earned) on five hits with two walks in two innings of work.
Katie McHugh went 3 for 4 with two home runs and five RBI, and Katie Scolese hit 2 for 3 with a home run to lead the Cardinals.
The Celtics return to action at The Spring Games with a 12:30 p.m. game against Montclair State and a 2:45 p.m. game against Penn State Brandywine March 11.
