Beighley, Fernandez named to AMCC Donna Ledwin Spring All-Sportsmanship Team
NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. --- Two Carlow University student-athletes earned a spot on the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Donna Ledwin Spring All-Sportsmanship Team, the league announced May 23.
NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. --- Two Carlow University student-athletes earned a spot on the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Donna Ledwin Spring All-Sportsmanship Team, the league announced May 23.
Additionally, the conference voted to name the conference All-Sportsmanship Team in honor of outgoing commissioner Donna Ledwin.
Ledwin, who is retiring after spending 23 years as the commissioner of the AMCC, made sportsmanship, inclusion and acceptance a focal point of what the conference represents. Renaming the sportsmanship team The Donna Ledwin All-Sportsmanship Team recognizes her for years to come in a way that represents who she is and what she has done for the AMCC.
All institution sport teams which compete for an AMCC championship selected one member from their team who displayed good sportsmanship throughout the season to be a member of the All-AMCC Sportsmanship Team. These individuals were nominated by their teammates.
The student-athlete selected must consistently demonstrate a high level of ethical conduct, respect and fair play in both practice and competition, whether on the sidelines or as an active competitor. Such sportsmanship shall be evident toward teammates, coaches, opponents, officials and fans. He/She must also serve as a positive representative of school spirit when a spectator at other teams' sporting events.
Below are the honorees for the Celtics:
- Softball: Senior second baseman Fran Beighley (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum Senior HS)
- Men's Volleyball: Sophomore libero Angelo Fernandez (Williamsport, Pa./St. John Neumann Regional Academy)
