PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University men's soccer lost a 6-1 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference contest to Pitt Greensburg at Highmark Stadium Wednesday morning.
The Celtics (1-8-0, 0-4 AMCC) started strong the first half, with a nice attempt from Blake Emge (Waynesboro, Pa./The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown) two minutes into the match.
Hunter Brady (Wrightsville, Pa./Eastern York HS) saw an opportunity to score in the 13th minute with the Pitt Greensburg keeper out of position, but a defenseman made a miraculous kick save to prevent Brady's shot from finding the back of the net.
The Bobcats (6-4-3, 3-0 AMCC) landed the first goal of the day at 36' and another less than a minute later to go ahead 2-0 heading into halftime.
Eric Fowler (Torrington, Conn./Wamogo Regional HS) cut Pitt Greensburg's lead to one when a turnover in the box afforded him a quick shot that he landed in the lower left of the net in the 51st minute.
Pitt Greensburg responded with a goal at 53', but Carlow goalkeeper John Rummel (Price, Utah/Utah State Univ. Eastern) made a nice stop in the 68th minute to keep the Celtics in the game.
A header off a corner kick at 72' put Pitt Greensburg up 4-1, and back-to-back goals at 77' and 78' sealed the deal for the Bobcats.
Pitt Greensburg outshot Carlow 26-10 (14-5 on goal) and held a narrow 5-4 margin in corner kicks.
Rummel made eight saves in the complete game effort.
The Celtics travel to Penn State Scranton for a 2 p.m. match Oct. 12.
