Women’s Cross Country places second in the nation at USCAA Championship
LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. --- Carlow University women’s cross country finished second in the nation at the USCAA National Championship at Penn State Fayette Saturday.
LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. --- Carlow University women's cross country finished second in the nation at the USCAA National Championship at Penn State Fayette Saturday.
The Celtics scored 81 points, led by Laci Schwirian (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward HS) who took home First Team All-American honors with a seventh-place finish of 26:24.80 in the 6k race.
Ella Cloak (New Cumberland, Pa./Trinity HS) earned Second Team All-American honors racing to a 13th place finish out of 60 runners on the day with a time of 26:54.70.
Mackenna Rankin (New Bethlehem, Pa./Redbank Valley HS) placed in the top-20 with a time of 27:32.40, and the rest of the team ran personal best times to help secure the trophy.
SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY-ESF) raced to five of the top six spots and scored a perfect 15 points to win the championship. Maura O'Brien led the team with a time of 24:29.80.
On the men's side, Quincy Faña (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler Area HS) completed the 8k race in 40:08.70, and Gavin McLain (Acworth, Ga./North Paulding HS) crossed the finish line in 52:41.10.
The SUNY-ESF men's team completed a fifth-straight sweep of the championship with 33 points, and Eliot Soderholm of Paul Smith's College secured the individual title with a time of 27:46.50.
