Women’s Tennis wins first match of the season over La Roche, falls to Waynesburg
PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University women’s tennis picked up its first win of the season with a 6-1 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference victory over La Roche University at Lakevue Athletic Club Friday night.

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University women's tennis picked up its first win of the season with a 6-1 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference victory over La Roche University at Lakevue Athletic Club Friday night.
The Celtics (1-6, 1-4 AMCC) took the No. 2 and 3 doubles matches to win the point and won five of the six singles sets over the RedHawks (0-7, 0-5 AMCC).
Elle Duda (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park HS) and Lyric Knepshield (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk HS) won No. 2 doubles, 6-0, while Reagan Redford (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon McMillan HS) and Leah Hartman (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park HS) won No. 3 doubles, 6-1.
Peja Cruise (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour HS/Hollins Univ.) swept the No. 1 singles spot, 6-2, 6-2, and Knepshield won the No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-4.
Duda won No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-2, and Hartman won a tiebreak set 6-4, 3-6 and 10-4 in No. 5 singles. Madelyn Straw (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley Senior HS) won her first singles match as a Celtic with a 6-1, 6-4 victory in the No. 6 spot.
vs. Waynesburg: L, 5-2
The Celtics turned around and traveled down 79 for a match against Waynesburg University early Saturday morning.
Despite the quick turnaround, Carlow played well but lost, 5-2.
Cruise and Julia Piatt (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks HS) won No. 1 doubles 7-5, but the Yellow Jackets (6-6) took the next two to secure the doubles point.
Cruise and Piatt also won the No. 1 and 2 singles matches, respectively, but Waynesburg won the next four singles enroute to the match victory.
The Celtics travel to Baldwin Wallace University for a 1 p.m. match Oct. 25.
