Women’s Tennis goes 0-2 in final weekend home stand

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University women's tennis competed in its final home contests of the season Saturday and Sunday at Highland Park Tennis Club.
The Celtics (0-5, 0-3 AMCC) lost 5-2 to Mount Aloysius College (3-4, 2-0 AMCC) in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action Saturday afternoon, and fell to Saint Vincent College (5-3), 5-2, Sunday morning.
Prior to the match on Saturday, the Celtics celebrated senior Julia Piatt (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks HS).
Piatt celebrated in turn with a tie-break win in the No. 2 singles spot, 6-3, 4-6 and 10-6. Peja Cruise (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour HS/Hollins Univ.) added Carlow's second point with a tie-break set of her own, 6-4, 1-6, 10-6 in the No. 1 singles spot.
The Mounties swept the doubles point and secured victories in the 3-6 singles places for the win.
Carlow won the doubles point against the Bearcats Sunday, with a No. 1 doubles victory of 6-3 by Cruise and Piatt, and a No. 2 doubles win of 7-5 from Elle Duda (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park HS) and Lyric Knepshield (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk HS).
Duda secured Carlow's second point of the match with a tiebreak win in the No. 3 singles spot, 0-6, 6-3 and 10-5. Madelyn Straw (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley Senior HS) took her No. 6 singles set to a tiebreak but fell, 2-6, 6-4, 7-10.
The Celtics travel to Pitt Greensburg for a 1:30 p.m. AMCC match Sept. 27.
