Women’s Tennis faces tough conference competition against Penn State Behrend

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University women's tennis lost a 6-1 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference contest to visiting Penn State Behrend at Alpha Tennis & Fitness Saturday afternoon.

Peja Cruise (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour HS/Hollins Univ.) secured Carlow's point in the No. 1 singles spot. After a 6-6 tie in the first set, Cruise won a 7-2 tiebreak set and secured the win with a 6-3 victory.

Elle Duda (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park HS) took her opponent to three sets in the No. 3 singles spot. After falling in the first set, 6-2, Duda won the next set by the same score, but Behrend's Lauren Burkley was victorious after a 10-8 third set.

Julia Piatt (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks HS) won four games in the No. 2 singles position and won two games with Cruise in the No. 1 doubles spot. Behrend swept the doubles sets to earn the point.

The Celtics are on a long hiatus before celebrating Senior Day against Mount Aloysius College Sept. 20.
