PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University women's soccer lost a 6-0 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference contest to Mount Aloysius College at Highmark Stadium Tuesday afternoon.
The Celtics (1-10, 0-5 AMCC) played strong through the first half but ran out of steam against the Mounties (4-6-3, 2-2-1 AMCC).
Mount Aloysius landed a goal just four minutes into the match, but Carlow's back line stood strong against several fast breaks. Goalkeeper Elizabeth Knight (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin HS) made a big stop in a one-on-one situation in the 16th minute, and a defensive save at 34' kept the Celtics in the match.
The Mounties scored their second goal of the match soon after in the 35th minute, and a penalty kick at 37' put the Celtics back three heading into halftime.
A long free kick and commotion in front of the net following a corner kick afforded Mount Aloysius two more goals at 57' and 65'. The final goal was a laser from Brooke Thomas from 20 yards out that went top shelf in the 79th minute. Thomas led the Mounties with a brace on the day.
Anna Gribik (Clarion, Pa./Clarion Area HS) placed two shots on target for the Celtics, and Amara Battista (South Park, Pa./South Park HS) recorded one in the effort.
Mount Aloysius outshot Carlow 26-7 (15-3 on goal) and held a 6-2 corner kick advantage.
Carlow travels to Pitt Bradford for a 2 p.m. AMCC match Oct. 18.
