PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University women's soccer lost a 3-1 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference contest to La Roche University on the road Tuesday.
Jenna McGuinness (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin HS) scored her first goal of the season in the 88th minute, but it was too little, too late for the Celtics.
The RedHawks (4-4) defense did not afford Carlow a single shot in the first half and put two goals on the board early in the 23rd and 29th minutes.
La Roche went ahead 3-0 with a goal at 60', out shooting the Celtics 10-5 in the second half.
Carlow had an opportunity to sink a penalty kick in the 70th minute but RedHawks goalkeeper Julianna Hornikel picked up the save.
Elizabeth Knight (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin HS) suffered the loss in net after making five saves in 79 minutes, and Emma Paul (Naples, Fla./Naples HS) saw her first collegiate action in net in the final 11 minutes of the match with one save.
Carlow travels to Hilbert College for a 1 p.m. AMCC match Oct. 4.
