Women’s Soccer scores first goal of the season in AMCC opener
PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University women’s soccer scored its first goal of the season in a tough 5-1 loss to Alfred State College to open Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action Saturday night at Cupples Stadium.

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University women's soccer scored its first goal of the season in a tough 5-1 loss to Alfred State College to open Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action Saturday night at Cupples Stadium.
The Pioneers (5-4) struck first with a goal at 31' to take a 1-0 lead into halftime, but the Celtics evened the score less than a minute into the second half.
Anna Gribik (Clarion, Pa./Clarion Area HS) scored the equalizer at 46', an unassisted shot high toward the opposite post.
The tie was short-lived, as Isabella Hoffmann landed back-to-back goals for Alfred State at 51' and 53' to give the Pioneers a 3-1 lead.
Hoffman assisted on a wide open shot for Jillian Wright at 64', and Alfred State scored its final goal of the game in the 78th minute.
Goalkeeper Elizabeth Knight (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin HS) made 11 saves in the complete game effort, as the Pioneers outshot the Celtics, 31-5 (16-2 on goal) and held a 6-0 corner kick advantage.
Up next for Carlow is a 3 p.m. AMCC match at La Roche Sept. 30.
