Softball swept by NCAA DII Glenville State in nonconference action

Game 1: L, 7-3
Glenville State (7-9) held the Celtics (2-12) to just three hits in the first game.
The Pioneers put a run on the board with a one-out RBI double in the first.
Glenville State added two runs on four hits in the third to extend their lead to 3-0 before walking in a Carlow run in the top of the fourth.
The Pioneers retired the Celtics in order in the top of the sixth and broke open scoring in the bottom half of the frame.
Glenville State strung together six singles and took advantage of an error to put four runs up on the board, leading the Celtics 7-1.
Carlow attempted a comeback in the top of the seventh.
Amelia Herzer hit an RBI double to right-center field to bring in a run, and Hannah Gallagher hit a two-out single to left to bring Herzer home.
Glenville State forced a ground out to end the inning before any more damage could be done.
Morgan Pierce was saddled with the loss after allowing seven runs (six earned) on nine hits in 5.1 innings of work. Pierce struck out three and walked two.
Amanda Hu tossed the final two outs, allowing two hits and tallying a strikeout.
Katelyn Richardson hit 3 for 4 with three RBI to lead the Pioneers.
Game 2: L, 2-1
The Pioneers once again held Carlow to three hits in the nightcap.
Glenville State scored both of its runs in the bottom of the first and kept Carlow at bay the remainder of the game.
The Pioneers hit a bases-loaded RBI single up the middle to score the first run, and a two-out single to right-center field brought in the second.
It was a defensive duel through five innings before the Celtics scored in the top of the sixth.
Gallagher singled to get on and moved to second on a sacrifice hit.
Morgan Nedley hit a two-out single to centerfield in the next at-bat and an error by the centerfielder allowed Gallagher to score from second.
Maddie Bowes drew a walk to put runners on the corners for the Celtics, but the Pioneers stifled Carlow's efforts with a final fly out.
The Celtics retired Glenville State in order in the bottom half of the inning, but the Pioneers returned the favor in the top of the seventh to end the game.
Clara Niglio pitched a complete game, allowing two runs on six hits with a strikeout and two walks.
Carlow hosts WVU Tech for its River States Conference home-opener Saturday.
