PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University is excited to announce the addition of varsity men's tennis this fall. It will become the Celtics' 17th varsity sport and the seventh men's sport.
Men's tennis, while primarily a spring sport, will hold nontraditional matches and tournaments in the fall. Carlow will compete in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate and Atlantic East Conferences in the NCAA Division III.
"Our women's tennis team is one of the University's longest-running programs, so it is a natural fit to add a complementary men's program to further align with the AMCC and the NCAA," Director of Athletics Lou Zadecky said. "We look forward to competing this season and creating another great opportunity for student-athletes at Carlow."
Carlow's investment in new athletics programs reflects the University's broader mission to nurture leadership, teamwork and personal growth both on and off the court. As a Mercy-rooted institution, Carlow believes in creating inclusive spaces for students to excel in their academic, spiritual and athletic journeys.
"Carlow is extending its commitment to offering co-curricular opportunities that enhance the student experience," said Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students Tim Phillips. "Men's tennis is a natural addition given student interest, the fact that student-athlete graduation rates are outstanding, and it compliments AMCC conference portfolio needs."
