PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University men's soccer held Mount Aloysius College scoreless for over 43 minutes but fell 4-0 in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference match at Highmark Stadium Tuesday night.
The Mounties (8-4-1, 2-1-1 AMCC) scored three goals in the first half, but the Celtics (2-8, 0-4 AMCC) held them scoreless until the 76th minute.
Mount Aloysius scored goals at 12', 28' and 33' to take a 3-0 lead into halftime. Returning from the half, Carlow's defense buckled down and kept the Mounties off the board until commotion in front of the net following a free kick resulted in an own goal for the Celtics.
Abdul Shuaib (Pittsburgh, Pa./Avonworth HS) saw several good looks late in the match but could not get one to fall, and Eric Fowler (Torrington, Conn./Wamogo Regional HS) placed two shots on target for the Celtics.
Goalkeeper John Rummel (Price, Utah/Utah State Univ. Eastern) made six saves in the complete game effort.
The Mounties outshot Carlow 28-8 (10-3 on goal) and held an 8-5 corner kick advantage.
The Celtics travel to Pitt Bradford for a 4 p.m. AMCC match Oct. 18.
