Men’s Golf places eighth at AMCC Championship

INDIANA, Pa. --- Carlow University men's golf finished eighth of nine teams after the final round of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship tournament at Indiana Country Club Tuesday.

The Celtics improved their first day team score by 15 strokes to score 378, with a two-day score of 771.

Christian Rotundo tied for 16^th of 44 golfers with a two-day score of 168 to lead the Celtics, while Logan Smith improved six strokes from the first round of the tournament to place 24^th after carding a 170.

Smith birdied four times and hit three par, while Rotundo made eight par on the day.

Zach Jubeck recorded a two-day score of 175, and CJ Lucas shot 10 strokes better this round with a score of 124.

The Penn State Altoona men's golf team won the championship for the third consecutive season and eighth time overall. The Lions finished in first place out of nine teams at the conclusion of the second and final round of the tournament.

With the victory, Penn State Altoona received the AMCC's automatic berth to compete in the NCAA Division III Championships. The Lions make their seventh-ever NCAA postseason appearance at the national tournament, which is scheduled for May 14-17 at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev.

Pitt-Greensburg earned AMCC runner-up status with a two-day team score of 648, and Penn State Behrend placed third with 657.

Penn State Altoona's Trey Heffelfinger won the AMCC individual title, edging past teammate Peter Nusbaum in a playoff. Heffelfinger and Nusbaum finished atop the 44-player leaderboard, after both compiled two-round scores of 148, with Nusbaum shooting 74 on Tuesday and Heffelfinger firing a 77.
