Strong second half not enough for Men’s Basketball at La Roche

Carlow (1-18, 1-9 AMCC) recorded its highest field goal percentage of the season against the RedHawks, shooting 50 percent (31 for 62). The Celtics also shot 81 percent (17 for 21) from the foul line and scored 20 points off 14 La Roche turnovers on the night.
Jordyn Tavarez (New Kensington, Pa./Highlands HS/Penn West Calif.) shot 10 for 15 from the field and tied his season-high with a game-high 28 points. He tallied three assists and seven rebounds. Jimmy Giannetta (Pittsburgh, Pa./Saint Joseph HS) scored 12 points and Tavin Adamson (Loveland, Colo./Thompson Valley HS/El Camino College) added 10.
The RedHawks (9-10, 8-2 AMCC) reached a 21 point advantage midway through a 54-30 first half.
The Celtics outscored La Roche 55-49 in the second half but was not enough to erase the first half deficit.
La Roche shot 60.6 percent from field (40 for 66) and outrebounded Carlow 37-23. The RedHawks outscored the Celtics 40 to 19 off the bench.
Bryce Epps led La Roche with 21 points, and four other players recorded double figures in the win.
The Celtics host Alfred State College for a 5:30 p.m. AMCC game Jan. 31.
