PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University esports opened its fall season of Marvel Rivals with a 3-1 loss to Shenandoah University Tuesday.
Map 1 – Domination
Carlow University Gold opened the series with strong coordination, securing the first capture point convincingly. Momentum shifted, however, when DPS player Elizabeth Knight (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin HS) experienced connection issues during the second point, leaving Carlow to play a 5v6. Despite the disadvantage, the team held their ground as best they could, but Shenandoah capitalized on the numbers to secure the second point.
Knight reconnected in time for the third capture point, but Shenandoah's defensive play proved too strong, closing out the map and putting Carlow down 0–1 in the series. Anthony Lewis (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Township Senior HS) stood out on DPS with 17 eliminations, providing steady pressure and keeping Carlow competitive even while the team was down a player. Despite the disconnection issues, Knight still managed to contribute a strong 22,261 healing, showing her impact even with limited time in the match.

On Convergence, Carlow University Gold showed strong resilience against Shenandoah's heavy offensive pressure. The DPS duo of Lewis and Tay Johnson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton LaSalle HS) carried much of the load, combining for the final hits on 24 of Carlow's 28 eliminations. Johnson's versatility was on full display as he not only racked up damage but also provided critical frontline support, blocking over 31,674 damage to help ease the pressure on the tanks.
Despite their efforts, Shenandoah's own DPS line proved overwhelming, forcing Carlow to fall behind in key fights and ultimately drop the map. The series score moved to 0–2.

Carlow University Gold bounced back on Convoy with a well-coordinated effort across the board. The team pushed objectives effectively while trading evenly in fights against Shenandoah. This time, it was the support line that shined: Leilani Nickles (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Alena Hemminger (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex HS) combined for over 47,000 healing and both recorded match-high assists, keeping teammates alive through extended fights and enabling Carlow's DPS to rack up eliminations. Their consistent support was pivotal in stabilizing the team during critical pushes.
The win not only put Carlow on the board but also showed they could go toe-to-toe with Shenandoah when everything clicked. With momentum building, the series tightened to 1–2.

Map 4 – Domination
Shenandoah came out strong on the final map, overwhelming Carlow with relentless pressure. The tank line of Angelo Fernandez (Williamsport, Pa./St. John Neumann Regional Academy) and Isaiah West (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Township Senior HS) held their ground admirably, combining for over 29,000 damage blocked while also stepping up offensively. Fernandez matched the team-high with seven eliminations, while West added six of his own, showcasing their ability to contribute on both sides of the fight.
However, Shenandoah's aggressive and scattered attacks forced Carlow's tanks out of their usual rhythm and onto the offensive more often than planned. Despite their efforts, Carlow was unable to stabilize, dropping the map 2–0 and the series 1–3.
Even with the loss, Carlow showed bright spots throughout the match and will look to bounce back next week against Huskie Gaming Black from Northern Illinois University.
