Carlow Rocket League Gold Team drops spring opener to Seton Hill

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University esports opened the 2024 spring season with a 3-0 loss to Seton Hill University Thursday night.
Game 1
The Griffins opened with a few quick goals jumping to a 3-0 lead over Carlow with 3:26 left in game one. Seton Hill extended the lead to 4-0 with just under three minutes remaining in the game. AJ Nguyen landed a goal with 18 seconds left on the clock and ruined the clean sheet for the Griffins, but it would be the final Celtic goal in the first game as Seton Hill came out on top, 4-1.
Game 2
Carlow subbed Nyguen for Zachary Taylor in the second game. Seton Hill drew first blood, scoring twice in the first minute. The Griffins extended the lead to 5-0 with 2:42 left after a flurry of three quick goals in a 45 second time span.
Angelo Fernandez responded with a Carlow goal from a Brady Fest assist just 10 seconds later. The Griffins closed out the match with a final score of 5-1.
Game 3
Almost a full minute passed in the third game before either team found the back of the net. Seton Hill broke the scoreless tie to go up 1-0 with 4:07 left.
Carlow and Seton Holl traded a barrage of shots back and forth for the remaining four minutes but neither team was able to produce another goal. Game three could have gone either way, but Seton Hill was able to edge out Carlow and finish the game 1-0 to win the match in three straight games.
Carlow Gold returns to action on Feb. 13 with an NECC conference match versus Mount Aloysius.
