Carlow University Department of Athletics secures second place in USCAA President’s Cup race
PITTSBURGH --- The United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) announced the Carlow University Department of Athletics as runner-up in the 2022-23 President’s Cup race.
PITTSBURGH --- The United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) announced the Carlow University Department of Athletics as runner-up in the 2022-23 President's Cup race.
The announcement was made during the annual convention in Winston-Salem, N.C. in June, and Director of Athletics Lou Zadecky was in attendance to receive the award on behalf of the department.
"Although we were hoping for a repeat of last year, we are honored to be recognized as one of the top departments in the nation," Zadecky said. "It is a true testament to the hard work and dedication of our amazing student-athletes and their commitment to the mission of Carlow University. I am beyond proud of our student-athletes for achieving this accomplishment."
Last year, the Celtics secured the President's Cup with a first place finish. This year, Christendom College earned the distinction for the third time since the inception of the award.
Established in 2018, the President's Cup is presented to the athletic department that scores the best in academic performance in the association. It is set forth to honor member institutions whose student-athletes excel in the classroom and to highlight the efforts of an athletic program to put the student first in its mission of providing opportunities for young people.
Based on the adoption of the above philosophy, the President's Cup committee rewards points to institutions by their rank against other institutions in program GPA, all-academic award winners (3.5+ GPA individuals) and overall athletic department GPA.
This season, Carlow saw 44 student-athletes named to individual sport all-academic teams. Nominees must be sophomores with a 3.5 GPA or higher to earn the award.
As a department, the Celtics boasted a 3.34 overall GPA for the 2022-23 season.
